The Acute Care Surgery Division provides expert trauma care, surgical critical care, emergency surgery services and surgical rescue at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, a 900+ bed quaternary referral academic medical center located in Center City Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

For over 30 years, Jefferson has been an accredited Level I Regional Resource Trauma Center serving the local Center City community as well as a referral center for the multiple suburban communities and Level II trauma centers outside of Philadelphia. 

Jefferson is also a:         

  • Federally designated Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center,
  • Hand Injury Center,
  • Burn Center, and
  • Eye referral center (Wills Eye Hospital)

Jefferson Acute Care Surgery provides comprehensive multidisciplinary care for all acutely ill and injured patients.


Evanescent is a literary journal published by Jefferson Center for Injury Research and Prevention and dedicated to stories of injury and all its victims.

JCIRP is a proud entity of the Department of Surgery at Sidney Kimmel Medical College and the Jefferson College of Nursing. It is meant to complement the high level of healthcare delivery for which we strive with the humanity we celebrate in all for whom we are privileged to serve.
