Social Programming

The GSA is also proud to organize consistent social programming throughout the year, to help students get to know each other and also to provide a much needed break from lab and work schedules. At the beginning of the year, GSA hosts several Welcome Month events to help new students adjust to life at Jefferson and start to think of it as home. These include: morning and afternoon coffee breaks scheduled around the first big class – GC550!; Quizzo at Fado – an informal outing to pub quiz; and a post exam lunch, during which PhD students take new students to debrief their first big exam in GC550 over a meal.

We next host a Halloween party – complete with costume contest – around the Halloween Charity Raffle. It’s really scary how much fun we have! GSA then gives students another opportunity to dress up for our annual family style Holiday Dinner and Ugly Sweater Party on Jefferson’s campus.

Continuing on the Quizzo theme, we host an annual Winter Bash every January. We typically choose a theme, which in past years has included: 90’s, Oscars, Space Oddities, and Titanic. During the event, students form Quizzo teams and compete for the ultimate prize of bragging rights in a Quizzo style trivia related to the theme.

Finally, to cap off the year, the GSA sponsors a trip to Yakitori Boy Karaoke, during which we sing our way into summer. Our final event of the year is a Welcome to Summer BBQ on Jefferson’s campus, where we reflect on the year together.
