To apply to the graduate program, applicants MUST apply online using the Athletic Training Centralized Application Service (ATCAS). For more information about ATCAS click here.

The Athletic Training graduate program has rolling admission, though candidates are encouraged to apply early due to limited space. Applications can be submitted to ATCAS after September 1st the year prior to enrollment. ALL applications will be considered, subject to space availability in the entering class. Admission letters will be distributed beginning in December the year prior to enrollment. Please visit https://atcas.liaisoncas.com/ to create your ATCAS account.

By completing your application, you indicate that you have read, understand and acknowledge receipt of the Performance Requirements and Technical Standards for the Master of Science in Athletic Training program at Jefferson.  

Admissions Requirements

For admission to the graduate phase of the Athletic Training program at Jefferson, students must submit the following items through the ATCAS application. The requirements for admissions are as follows:

In addition to the admission requirements, please note the pre-attendance requirements below. These items are not required for admission, but must be completed before the beginning of the graduate phase of the Athletic Training program.

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS

  • Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended
  • Bachelor’s degree, any major (completed prior to start of program)
  • 3.0 Cumulative GPA
  • Prerequisite courses taken within 10 years of starting the porgram
  • A “C” or better in the following prerequisite courses. While a grade of "C" is required, admissions to the program is competitive and we prefer to see a grade of "B" or better for admission:
    • Anatomy/Physiology I or Anatomy with lab, 4 semester credits
    • Anatomy/Physiology II or Physiology with lab, 4 semester credits
    • Biology with lab, 4 semester credits
    • Chemistry with lab 4 semester
    • Physics with lab 4 semester credits
    • Psychology 3 semester credits
    • While not required, the following courses are recommended: Pre-calculus, Nutrition , Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, Biostatistics, and Research Methods
  • Two letters of recommendation from academic or professional sources
  • Personal essay as stated in ATCAS
  • 50 hours of clinical observation under the supervision of a licensed rehabilitation professional (preferably a certified athletic trainer).  Applicants have until the start of the program to complete all 50 hours, not all need to be completed at time of application submission. 
    • For Fall 2021 cycle ONLY: hours will be recommended and not required due to COVID-19.

PRE-ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS

In the graduate-level Athletic Training program at Jefferson, students begin clinical rotations right away. In preparation for these rotations, the following items are required before the start of graduate-level coursework:

  • Pre-attendance physical (including bloodwork)
  • Current CPR/First aid professional rescuer certification (American Heart Association OR American Red Cross only)

Information for applicants with foreign education:

  • Students must be able to provide sufficient documentation to be issued an I-20 form indicating adequate financial support.
  • TOEFL scores are required. Note: the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) will be considered as a possible substitute for the TOEFL.
  • International applicants must submit an evaluation of academic credentials. While world Education Services (WES) is Philadelphia University’s preferred elevator, any evaluation service accredited through the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) will suffi    ce.
