Advanced Practice Certificate in Hand & Upper Limb Rehabilitation

Applying

The Advanced Practice Certificate in Hand & Upper Limb Rehabilitation is designed for physical therapists or occupational therapists who wish to participate in advanced study of the hand and upper limb.  Jefferson has an online application that allows candidates to submit all required application materials directly to the application platform.

Application Deadline

Application Deadline: Extended to August 1

To be considered complete and eligible for review, a Thomas Jefferson University application must be completed online by the deadline date, along with the required letters of recommendation, transcripts, personal statement, and all applicable documents (test scores, etc.). All documents must be postmarked by the deadline date to be eligible for review.

Applicants are encouraged to apply early, as decisions are granted on a rolling basis throughout the cycle until the class is filled. Decisions include: Offer of Admission, Denied Admission, Hold for Grades and Waitlist.

Prerequisites

  • Graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy program
  • Professional Credential
    • Depending on your profession and where you practice, a professional OT or PT credential may include a license, certificate, or registration. In all cases, it is the credential that you need to legally practice in that location. This credential must be active, and you must be in good standing with the issuing agency.
  • Recommended, not required: At least one year work experience as a Occupational Therapist or Physical Therapist.

Previous hand therapy experience is not required

If your coursework was completed outside of the United States, you must submit a course-by-course evaluation from one of the following international evaluation agencies:

Letters of Recommendation

Students should submit:

  • 1 letter of recommendation from a faculty member from your OT or PT education.

OR

  • 2 letters of recommendation from your work experiences. Letters from supervisors or co-workers including OT’s, PT’s or other healthcare professionals will fulfill this requirement.

Applicants will need to provide the name, title, and email address of the person(s) writing the recommendation via the online application. Recommenders must complete the online recommendation form emailed to them via the online application. 

If you possess previously written letters of recommendation from a reference, contact the Office of Admissions directly.

CV/Resume

Load your CV/Resume into your online application under the “documents” section of the application.

Essay

A 500 word essay expressing why you are interested in the certificate program is required. The essay is a supplemental question in the online application that you will respond to directly in the application.

OT or PT Professional Credential

Depending on your profession and where you practice, a professional credential may include a license, certificate, or registration. In all cases, it is the credential that you need to legally practice in that location. This credential must be active and you must be in good standing with the issuing agency.

Upload a copy of your professional credential, along with expiration date, to your online application under the “documents” section.

English Language Proficiency

All international applicants and U.S. permanent residents must demonstrate English language proficiency as one of the conditions for admission to Thomas Jefferson University. Applicants must submit official TOEFL scores or fulfill one or more of the conditions necessary to waive the English language proficiency requirement. TOEFL or IELTS scores are valid for two years; scores older than two years will not be considered.
