TJU Policies: Crime Reporting & Investigation

Policy Number 119.04

To comply with PA Act 73 College and University Security Information Act and public (federal) law 101.542 Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act, the Security Department conducts full and objective investigations of all security incidents. Jefferson reserves the right to take any appropriate legal action if it has probable cause to believe that an employee, student, visitor, or tenant has committed a criminal act on Jefferson campuses.

Any faculty, staff, department heads, managers, supervisors, and other employees or students having knowledge of a security related incident within the campuses should notify the Security Department immediately.

To the extent possible, the Security Department will ensure confidentiality of information obtained and is authorized to pursue investigations to a final conclusion. Appropriate Senior Officers will be apprised of developments on the security proceedings and will have the opportunity to evaluate the findings for a proper course of action.

Loss prevention programs which encourage employee and student participation in crime prevention, will be administered by the Security Department. A 24-hour recorded phone line for confidential information is established (extension 5-5678) and maintained within the Investigation Unit on the main campus. On the Ford Road campus, call the Security Officer at ext.3888 to investigate.
