TimeSlips Creative Aging

TimeSlips Creative Aging brings together Jefferson students and local elders to connect through improvisational storytelling and other creative engagements. This initiative explores approaches to creative aging, a practice that seeks to imbue late-life with creativity and meaning while countering notions of ageism. 

TimeSlips is an evidence-based and award-winning approach that seeks to inspire awe and bring joy to elders and their care partners. It focuses on a shift away from the expectation of memory and toward imagination and invention, as well as using the emotional and symbolic language of the arts to foster collectivity and connection. 

Jefferson is presenting this initiative as part of a cohort of educational institutions – public and private universities, community colleges and youth programs around the U.S. – experimenting with ways in which the TimeSlips approach to creative engagement can be incorporated into curricular, co-curricular, and service-learning contexts. The program is facilitated by poet and teaching artist Jacob Winterstein, in collaboration with elder residents at Old City Presbyterian Apartments.
