Students for a National Health Program (SNaHP)

Membership Eligibility: All Members of the Jefferson Community

Membership Dues or Fees: none

Description: Students for a National Health program is the student organization affiliated with Physicians for a National Health program, a national organization of physicians that believe an inclusive, government-funded system of health insurance is the most just, equitable, and affordable way to provide health insurance to our nation’s inhabitants.  By starting a SNaHP chapter at Jefferson, we will be able to engage in the ongoing national debate surrounding the healthcare system in the United States and provide a voice for those future health professionals that believe a single-payer system is a necessary improvement over the current public/private system.

As a student organization, we hope to disseminate information about single-payer-related rallies and events in Philadelphia and nationally.  We also hope to educate interested students at Jefferson about what a single payer system might look like and why we believe it is the only viable optional for health care in the United States moving forward.  Our goal for the short term is to provide education about single-payer health insurance and to organize students for single-payer related activities in Philadelphia.  Our long-term goal is to cultivate a sense of justice and fairness in students at Thomas Jefferson University regarding healthcare distribution in the United States.
