Jefferson Climbs in 2027 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges Ranking

Thomas Jefferson University jumped in several major categories in the latest U.S. News & World Report 2027 Best Colleges rankings.

Jefferson climbed four spots to No. 47 in the country for Best Value Schools and 10 places to No. 100 for Top Performers on Social Mobility. These rankings cement the University in the top 25% in both categories. In addition, Jefferson improved five spots in Best Colleges for Veterans.

The University also maintained its rank in the top third of National Universities and, in a new category, placed among the top 36% of private schools in the country. These rankings reinforce the continued academic success of Jefferson students and the tireless work done to align with the ever-evolving job market, says University President Susan Aldridge, PhD.

The University’s recent First Destination Report showed that 97% of the Class of 2025 are enrolled in graduate school, employed in fields related to their major or career interests, volunteering, or taking a gap year. (Plus, recent data from the U.S. Department of Education show median earnings for Jefferson graduates hit nearly $90,000 — well above the midpoint for four-year colleges.) Internships often play a crucial role in the Jefferson experience and help prepare students for life after graduation.

Dr. Aldridge also attributes these improvements to Jefferson’s efforts to attract a diverse student population and more first-generation students, as well as the University’s forward-looking, ethical approach to artificial intelligence.

“We prepare students for the future of work through our novel approach to teaching and learning, which is grounded in collaborative, hands-on, immersive experiences across interconnected professions and disciplines,” she says, noting that the improved rankings wouldn’t be possible without the efforts of the entire University community. “Thank you to all our faculty and staff for supporting our students and making Jefferson a wonderful place to learn.”

The latest ranking continues a trend of national recognition for Jefferson from U.S. News. In April, the College of Rehabilitation Sciences and Sidney Kimmel Medical College (SKMC) climbed in its annual Best Graduate Schools Rankings, reflecting steady momentum across key academic programs.

The Department of Physical Therapy rose six spots to No. 40 nationally, and the Department of Occupational Therapy held firm at No. 8, extending its longstanding position among the top 10 in the country.

SKMC also advanced to Tier 2 in the U.S. News primary care ranking and maintained its Tier 2 research ranking. U.S. News evaluates medical schools on faculty resources and academic achievements, grouping them into four tiers.

In addition, Jefferson saw major positive moves in Niche’s 2027 Best Colleges in America — most notably, soaring 159 spots to No. 206. This jump places the University among the top 14% nationally.

Niche bases its rankings on an analysis of academic, admissions, financial, and student life data from the U.S. Department of Education, along with millions of reviews from students and alumni. Read the full methodology here.

Among the other major Niche categories, Jefferson moved up 43 spots to No. 153 in Best Value Colleges (top 11% nationally) and rocketed 432 places to No. 208 for Best College Locations (top 14% nationally).

Jefferson vaulted into the top 10% for Best Colleges for Nursing, ranking No. 76 in the U.S. — a 25-spot jump. Niche also placed Jefferson at No. 3 for Best Colleges for Nursing in Pennsylvania (top 6%), up from No. 5 last year.

This recognition underscores the outcomes associated with a school focused on preparing future nurse leaders, says College of Nursing Dean Marie Ann Marino, EdD, RN, FAAN.

“At Jefferson, that commitment comes through the integration of academic rigor and substantial clinical experience, made possible by our partnership with Jefferson Health,” she says. “That partnership gives our students exposure that most nursing programs simply can’t offer. Rankings like this validate the strategic framework we’ve intentionally built. Our graduates don’t just enter the workforce. They lead it.”

Niche also ranked Jefferson No. 45 for Best Colleges for Architecture, a 15-spot leap that put the University in the top 27% — a testament to faculty dedication, student creativity and talent, and interdisciplinary, practice-focused education, says Barbara Klinkhammer, College of Architecture, Design, and Engineering dean.

“We prepare students to address complex challenges through innovative design, technology, and collaboration,” she says. “It’s gratifying to see those efforts acknowledged on a national level.”

Jefferson saw an equally impressive move in Best Colleges for Design, rising from No. 115 to No. 106, placing the University in the top 23% in the U.S.

This progress highlights the extraordinary work of textile and fashion design students, including studio coursework, leading industry internships, and immersive, sponsored projects, says Marcia Weiss, dean of the College of Fashion and Textiles.

“Our students advance the design profession through their conceptual vision, artistic talent, and technical expertise,” she says. “The creativity, talent, and commitment of our students, faculty, and alumni continue to elevate our programs and our place among the nation’s leading design schools.”
