Family & Community Medicine Residency

The Jefferson Family Medicine hospital service has operated continuously since the 1970s, admitting patients from our large practice and affiliated community practices. Currently, the service admits approximately 1,000 patients per year with a wide variety of medical conditions. Our hospital team is composed of an attending physician, two to three upper-level residents, family medicine interns, and rotating interns from obstetrics and gynecology and anesthesia.

The JFMA service is a model within Thomas Jefferson University Hospital for efficient, compassionate care. Our focus on integrating the transition from inpatient to outpatient care results in excellent outcomes for our patients as measured in length of stay, readmission rates, and patient satisfaction. Residents play a central role in managing patients throughout their hospitalization while working closely with faculty and multidisciplinary team members. During the COVID-19 crisis, the family medicine team proudly provided care to a very large percentage of affected patients within Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
