One of our biggest strengths is having three unique but related programs within the same department.

Our students participate in core curriculum courses spanning these disciplines with full-time faculty who are dedicated to teaching. Students learn and practice specialized hands-on training in recently renovated laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment at every stage of their program.

Program Highlights

In each of our three program options, you will find:

  • Real world experience is a hallmark to our program. You’ll take four practicum/internship experiences at one of 40+ clinical, academic and industry affiliates.
  • Our faculty collaborate with faculty from Sidney Kimmel Medical College, providing you with a unique clinical perspective.

Program Options:

Biotechnology

  • Prepare for a career developing innovative technologies used in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and healthcare industries—such as vaccine development, cell and gene therapy, molecular diagnostics and bioprocessing (manufacturing of biological therapies targeting cancer and other diseases).

Medical Laboratory Science

  • Gain the knowledge and skills to provide clinicians with the laboratory results used to diagnose, treat and manage patients suffering from various conditions, such as leukemia, diabetes, infection and more. Additional training in laboratory management, flow cytometry, molecular diagnostics and infection prevention and control will give you an edge after graduation.

Cytotechnology and Cell Sciences

  • Get ready for a future in diagnostic cytology where you can practice in a variety of laboratory settings. Develop knowledge and skill sets pertaining to cytology specimen screening and diagnostic interpretation, basic laboratory techniques, laboratory operations and management, application of companion technologies such as molecular testing, and demonstration of evidence-based medicine and professionalism.

Graduate certificates are also available in Clinical Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Immunohematology and Clinical Microbiology.

I knew that going to Jefferson would be a logical step for my education and future career. I know that what we are learning in class and applying in the lab and throughout our internship will make a difference in someone’s life.
