New STEM-Designated 'PSM' Professional Science Master's in Biotechnology

Our MS in Biotechnology program is designated as a Professional Science Master’s (PSM). PSM is a graduate/professional degree grounded in science and business, and our PSM at Jefferson designed for students interested in pursuing a variety of exciting, well-compensated career options in business, government or non-profit Bio/Pharmaceutical discovery and development organizations. The degree combines advanced coursework in science and business with an array of professional skill-development activities aligned with the needs of 21st century employers.

Biotechnology is where life sciences and technology converge. The Jefferson Biotechnology Program is designed to provide graduates with the unique ability to adapt and innovate in any research environment and product-driven industry.

The Jefferson Biotechnology program offers an educational experience taught by faculty from the Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, and Medical Diagnostic industries, who closely work with students to master essential career knowledge and skills that make graduates very successful. Moreover, the Jefferson Biotechnology program faculty arranges four months of built-in internships in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and academic research laboratories for each student based on their interests, which affords them important workplace experience providing a competitive edge for future employment.

The Biotechnology program is STEM designated. STEM eligibility allows international students on an F-1 student status to apply for an additional 24 months of work authorization after an initial 12-month period of post-completion Optional Practical Training (OPT) in the United States, if they meet the required criteria.
