Elliot J. Rayfield, MD’67, is a Clinical Professor of Medicine (Endocrinology) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. After graduating from Jefferson in 1967, he completed Internship and Residency at the University of Michigan Hospital and Endocrine Fellowships at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital and USAMRID (Walter Reed). He was recruited to Mount Sinai as the first fulltime faculty member and Director of the Diabetes Section, and received an NIH Research Career Development Award (1975-1980).

His research on animal models of virus-induced diabetes resulted in his being elected to the American Society of Clinical Investigation in 1982.

Dr. Rayfield has served as President of the Mount Sinai Alumni Association (2007-2009) and was Awarded a Jacobi Medallion by the Mount Sinai Alumni Association. He received the 2014 Sidney H. Ingbar Award from the Endocrine Society for Distinguished Service in the Field of Endocrinology and an Alumni Achievement Award from SKMC in 2017. He has served on the Institutional Advancement Committee at SKMC at TJU from 2018-2022.

Dr. Rayfield has been active in the Class Agent program of the SKMC Alumni Association and is passionate about fostering programs whereby SKMC medical students can be mentored by Jefferson Alumni.
