SKMC Class of 2028

Ian Argento graduated with honors in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from Penn State University. There, he played on the 2021 conference championship volleyball team. In 2023, the team placed 3rd in the NCAA national championships. Outside of his contributions on the court, Ian worked as a science tutor and as a research assistant. For his honors thesis, he studied the metabolic toll of a gene involved in neurodegeneration.

Currently, Ian is an M2 at Sidney Kimmel Medical College. He serves as a student representative on the Alumni Board. His research interests include spinal surgery outcomes, skull base tumors, and hearing loss. Inspired by his own experiences with sports injuries, Ian also collaborates with Jefferson’s Heath Design Laboratory in developing a wearable device for ankle sprain rehabilitation. He is most proud of his work as President of Jeff Teach—an organization that sends medical students into Philadelphia public schools to teach science. The city of Philadelphia recognized his work with a $28,000 grant to expand youth science education.

Ian grew up in Connecticut and now calls Massachusetts home, where his parents and two younger sisters live. Outside of medicine, Ian enjoys surfing, playing guitar, and competing in outdoor volleyball tournaments.
