Mark Perlmutter is a proud graduate of the Jefferson Medical College and stayed on at this institution for his Orthopedic residency and with one of its affiliates for his general surgical internship. He then went on to do his hand and microsurgery fellowship at the University of Miami. He practiced in Northeast Pennsylvania for greater than 20 years and then moved to North Carolina where he currently practice in a rural suburb of Raleigh. Although he is a “country hand surgeon,” he is currently President of the World Surgical Foundation, past president of the United States section of the International College of Surgeons and current vice president of the global ICS. He has done over 40 surgical missions, and volunteered at multiple global trauma setting on the very day that they, including Ground Zero on 9/11, Hurricanes Andrew and Katrina, the Haitian earthquake, and in Gaza during hostilities and after the “cease fire.” He has worked on four continents and has operated on many thousands of children. He looks forward to bringing this unique set of experiences to share with his current and future colleagues at the SKMC.
