Robert Stein is a board-certified cardiologist from Escondido, California. He graduated from Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. His post graduate training was at Boston City Hospital (now Boston Medical Center) and New York Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia division. He proudly served as a Major and Chair of the Cardiology Department in the US Army at 5th General Hospital in Germany and moved to Escondido in 1975. He retired from office practice and currently works part time as a hospitalist at Palomar Medical Center and cardiology consultant at the Palomar Rehab Institute. He’s currently the longest serving member of the medical staff at the hospital. In addition, he is the Medical Director of Cardiac Rehab at Palomar Health and the Chief of Staff at the Palomar Health Rehab Institute.

Dr. Stein has endowed two chairs at Jefferson-one for cardiac quality and the other for the archivist position at the university. He also has funded a scholarship at Jefferson and one at Central High School in Philadelphia, his alma mater.

Dr. Stein is a docent at the San Diego Museum of Art and the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum. Since the 9th grade, he’s been interested in Thomas Eakins the realist artist and his relationship to Jefferson. He hosts a monthly zoom presentation on the Chinese American Experience and Beyond covering a remarkably varied number of topics for the Chinese museum which is regularly attended by an international audience. He is currently a member and former Board President of the San Diego affiliate of the American Heart Association and is a regular presenter for the AHA on various cardiac topics especially women’s heart health across the country. For years he had been a national speaker for the AHA’s Get With The Guidelines program. He’s a Fellow of the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology. He has three daughters and five grandchildren.
