Meet Our Student: Radha Hemalathakumari

Meet our Student: Radha Hemalathakumari, a student in the MS in Construction Management program from the Jefferson College of Architecture and the Built Environment.

Why did you choose Jefferson?

Thomas Jefferson University has a good reputation in the field of education. I was very impressed with the courses that Jefferson offers such as Building Information Modelling, Estimation & Scheduling, Sustainable design methodologies, etc. They teach software like Microsoft Project, Revit, Bluebeam Revu, On-screen takeoff, etc. in class which is required by employers in the construction industry. The way the curriculum is designed for students is very practical.

Where are you from originally?

I am originally from Kerala which is a state in South India.

What is the best part of your studies?

  • Jefferson has experienced & knowledgeable professors from the construction industry who bring their work experience to the class which makes our collaborative classes interesting through discussions & activities.
  • Master’s project course gives an insight into the workflow & methodologies in the construction management field. It gave me exposure to working independently understanding the relationship between designs, estimates, schedules, and contracts.
  • The professors are very supportive and reachable anytime whenever we needed help and guidance. My Fall internship as an Estimating Intern was the best part as it gave me an opportunity to apply the skills I gained from school. It was interesting to experience & learn about the real construction world!
  • Being involved in various organizations for construction and being able to network with professionals from the industry has always been an interesting thing. My networking skills made my job search easy and landed me three job offers!

What’s something people would be surprised to find out about you?

  • I am the winner of the 2020 Barbara Mosteller scholarship by the Construction Financial Management Association.
  • I received the 2021 PWC student membership award.
  • I am an active member of CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women), Greater Philadelphia.
