Biography

Dr. Nicole G. Johnson, has over 20 years of experience working in the behavioral health care system in Philadelphia, surrounding counties and several states. Dr. Nicole has earned a Bachelors’ degree in Psychology, Masters of Education degree in Counseling Psychology (Temple University) and a Doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision (Regent University). She has also earned a certificate in Spiritual and Faith Based Counseling. 

Dr. Johnson is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Approved Clinical Supervisor, Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Certified Co-Occurring Disorder Professional Diplomate, Board Certified Tele-Mental Health Provider and holds a counseling competency in Problem Gambling. Nicole is also a Certified Prepare/Enrich Premarital & Marital Counselor. Nicole has served as a certified trainer in Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) for the State of Pennsylvania Bureau of Autism Services. Finally, Nicole is a Certified Master Trainer for QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Curriculum, and a Certified Mental Health First Aid Instructor for both the Youth and Adult Curricula. 

Currently, she serves as Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Clinical Development in the Community and Trauma Counseling Program at Thomas Jefferson University. She is also the Past President of the Greater Philadelphia Area Counseling Association (GPACA), a division of the Pennsylvania Counseling Association. Nicole owns NGJohnson Counseling & Consulting LLC, a firm which trains, consults with Community and Faith Based Organization across several states and provides clinical supervision for professionals preparing to obtain their license as a professional counselor in Pennsylvania.

Mentoring

Dr. Johnson is actively mentoring CTC and colleagues in the field of counseling, counselor education and supervision. One example of her mentorship involves her inclusion of two students and other faculty members on conceptual journal article. In addition, Dr. Johnson actively mentors high school, undergraduate students and social service professional who are interested in pursuing a career in professional counseling.

Advising

Dr. Johnson has been advising approximately 8 to 15 counseling students every academic year since becoming a full-time faculty member in the Community and Trauma Counseling program (2018-present).

Counseling

Dr. Johnson earned a doctorate degree in the CACREP-accredited counseling program at Regent University in 2016. She is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in Pennsylvania, Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) with competency in problem gambling, Certified Co-occurring Disorder Professional Diplomate (CCDP-D), Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) and Board Certified Tele-mental Health Provider (BC-TMH). She earned her Master’s of Education degree in Counseling Psychology from Temple University in 2004. She has primarily worked with individuals living with substance use and addictive disorders in community corrections, residential and outpatient treatment settings. In these settings, she has held positions as Unit Manager, Clinical Coordinator/Accreditation Manager and Program Director. In addition, Dr. Johnson has worked as a Behavioral Specialist Consultant, providing wrap-around services for youth and their families. She is a certified administrator and trainer of in Functional Behavioral Analysis. Currently, she is providing clinical services to a small number of diverse clients through tele-mental health. In addition, she consults with agencies providing organizational development, clinical supervision and training to behavioral health professionals.
