Sophie Lanzkron, MD, MHS

Dr. Lanzkron’s research and clinical interests are centered around the care of adults with sickle cell disease. Dr. Lanzkron is internationally recognized for her pioneering research on the optimal care and management of patients with sickle cell disease.  She has published a pivotal study demonstrating the benefits of the infusion clinic model over the emergency department in the management of uncomplicated painful episodes. She has worked at identifying barriers to high quality care and developed and refined tools to educate clinicians to help democratize knowledge about sickle cell disease management. She is the PI of the Globin Research Network for Data and Discovery (GRNDaD), the largest prospective registry for sickle cell disease in the US. She has served on the National Institutes of Health, Expert Panel in the Management of Sickle Cell Disease, the NIH’s Sickle Cell Disease Advisory Committee and on the American Society of Hematology’s Sickle Cell Guideline Panel. Dr. Lanzkron’s research is currently supported through grants from PCORI and HRSA.
