In Fall 2019, a group of Jefferson OT students and an alumni mentor had the unique opportunity to be welcomed into the Morris Home community where they collaborated with members, including Dominique "Rem’mie" Fells, to create group sessions focused on wellness and recovery, creative expression, emotional wellbeing, and daily living skills. During these groups, Rem'mie's spirit of kindness and joy radiated to those around her and her passion for fashion and design was evident through her enthusiasm and vibrant creations.

Tragically, Rem’mie was brutally murdered at the age of 27 in June 2020. This senseless act of violence mirrors a global epidemic of brutality and discrimination against transgender women of color.

Rem’mie’s mother shared that Rem’mie understood the power of education and was raised with the power of giving back, and in that spirit, a group of Jefferson OT students and alumni have rallied to establish a scholarship in Rem'mie's memory. The scholarship will act as the University's first to solely support transgender and gender non-confirming BIPOC students in any Jefferson academic program.
