Meet Our Alumni: Barb Barnett

Barb, who began her studies in architecture before earning her degree in graphic design in 2003, is now the owner of her own business, barb Barnett graphic design llc, where she works as a self-employed designer while balancing life as a mom of two.

Where are you from originally?

New Tripoli, PA.

What was the best part of your time at Jefferson?

Networking; the internships and assistantships I completed during school helped launch my career. Staying in touch with mentors over the years.

What are you doing now?

I am the owner of barb Barnett graphic design llc — which means I’m a self-employed “solopreneur” and work from home full time. I’m also a mom to an amazing nine-year-old and a five-year-old.

What’s something people would be surprised to find out about you?

I don’t like chocolate.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to our current students?

There are so many ways you can “be a designer,” so many environments and dynamics. Try to get a feel for what you’re looking for, who you want to work for and with by engaging with internships and seeking out opportunities, saying YES.
