Dr. Burton has interest in fostering the development of Critical Thinking skills and the Master Adaptive Learner behaviors in students.

An Emergency and Disaster Management focal area of interest is in the potential for psychological empowerment of victims and bystanders at mass casualty events, through the “just in time” training of these “First Care Providers”/ “(Time) Zero Providers” under supervision by uniformed First Responders at the scene of a Mass Casualty Incident.

An additional interest is the development of cost efficient remote Virtual/Augmented Reality and authentic simulation experiences for enhancing the knowledge, skills, attitudes and abilities of tomorrow’s practitioners.

Dr. Burton is a residency trained (Albert Einstein Medical Center/Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine), Board Certified Emergency Physician with sub-specialty Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Emergency Medical Services, and co-founder of the EMS Fellowship at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. He has over 35 years of Allied Health Care Experience in EMS, Emergency and Critical Care medicine and education, including a stint with the EMS oversight authority for the Philadelphia Fire Department in the 80's. He continues to serve in an advisory capacity to the Bucks County Rescue Squad (Bristol ALS EMS), and the County EHSC and MAC. Additional experiences include Occupational and Environmental Medicine, providing Medical Surveillance, medical investigations, treatment, and rehabilitation for several industrial facilities in the Lower Bucks County area of Pennsylvania. Dr. Burton is currently adjunct faculty at Philadelphia University, and previously an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Temple University and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
