Dr. Papanagnou’s interests explore the intersection of medical education, communication training, health systems science and diagnostic excellence, with a particular focus on navigating uncertainty in clinical practice. His work examines how clinicians engage in patient-centered conversations during moments of diagnostic uncertainty and how educational interventions can improve communication and decision-making. As a 2020 Macy Faculty Scholar, he developed a curriculum to prepare clinicians for the complexities of uncertainty in medical practice. More recently, as a National Academy of Medicine Scholar in Diagnostic Excellence, he has advanced training initiatives that promote equitable, transparent communication in uncertain clinical scenarios.
