Dr. Ziring was recruited to SKMC in 2015 to lead the design and implementation of a new four- year UME curriculum that successfully launched in 2017. The organizational culture change that was necessary to support successful implementation and the processes required to sustain change in a complex system are a focus of her scholarly work. In addition, recent scholarly work has focused on health systems science and incorporating uncertainty in medical education. Dr. Ziring has been a PI/Co-PI with the American Medical Associations’ Accelerating Change in Medical Education (ACE) consortium since 2016. This involvement has enabled her to build a collaborative national network across the AMA consortium schools which has been invaluable to ongoing innovation at SKMC. Dr. Ziring has also been nationally recognized for her scholarship in medical professionalism as an invited speaker at the American Board of Internal Medicine Foundation and Alpha Omega Alpha Invitational Meetings. Her Academic Medicine manuscript, “How Do Medical Schools Identify and Remediate Students with Professionalism Lapses? A Study of US and Canadian Medical Schools” received the John A. Benson Jr. Professionalism Article Prize by the ABIM Foundation in 2016.
