Jefferson Fashion Students Featured in Highsnobriety

The late Virgil Abloh always had a passion for bringing others up with him, he once said “opening new doors for the Black community has always been, and will always be, the focus of my career.” This legacy of his has been carried on through Abloh’s "Post-Modern” Scholarship fund, which provides funding and professional mentorship from inside the fashion industry to students of Black, African-American or African descent.

Two Thomas Jefferson fashion students, T’yanna Neely and Tiana McCarthy have been awarded Virgil Abloh’s “Post-Modern” Scholarship and were selected to model a limited-edition capsule collection in support of the "Post-Modern" Scholarship, and to be featured in an article published on Highsnobiety. The collection dropped April 13^th and is available here. Highsnobiety partnered with Virgil Abloh’s Off-White to release the capsule collection honoring Abloh and celebrating his work with students. Offerings include a varsity jacket, a hoodie and a t shirt. All proceeds will go towards supporting the Post-Modern Scholarship fund.

McCarthy and Neely, along with seven other scholarship winners, traveled to SoHo, New York for the photoshoot and interview.  The winners were asked to dress as they would for everyday street wear, and then were given the capsule collection pieces to finish off their look. Neely says the shoot was about “feeling comfortable in our own skin”

So what’s next for Neely and McCarthy? Both are graduating this May. Neely, a Fashion Merchandising and Management major, plans to return to New York City where she was born and raised. She will be completing an internship with Milk Makeup this summer, an opportunity that came from winning the "Post-Modern" scholarship. You can view her portfolio here.

As for McCarthy, a Fashion Design major, she is currently finishing up her senior collection, which is composed of up-cycled garments and natural dyes.
