Discover Fashion Day: A Glimpse into the World of Fashion and Textiles

At our recent Discover Fashion Day event on Thursday, 10 October 2024, high school students from various schools gathered to experience firsthand what it’s like to be part of our vibrant fashion, textiles, and merchandising community. The day was filled with excitement, learning, and invaluable insights into the creative world of design, such as understanding the design process, learning about different textile materials, and exploring the business side of fashion.

The event started with a warm welcome and a continental breakfast, where our dedicated faculty and current students personally greeted the attendees, fostering a sense of community and support right from the start. With excitement in the air, students embarked on their tour, exploring the departments of Fashion Design (FD), Textiles (TD), and Fashion Merchandising and Management (FMM). Each stop provided a unique insight into the disciplines, showcasing the innovative spaces, creative processes, and potential career paths these fields offer.

After the tour, everyone gathered for a lunch and admissions presentation in the DEC Forum. Our admissions team provided valuable information on the application process, including the required documents, deadlines, and tips for a successful application, giving students a clear understanding of how to take the next step toward their future in fashion and textiles.

One of the day's highlights was the Student Panel Discussion, where current students shared their experiences, challenges, and successes. The panel offered unique perspectives from different programs featuring Olivia Connor, Marissa Saylor, Miriam Badri, Gabrielle Fasoranti, Karen Pujols, and Silvana Russo. The Q&A session that followed allowed attendees to ask questions and gain deeper insights into the student experience.

Discover Fashion Day was not just an event but a catalyst for inspiration and information. It left high school students brimming with excitement and hope for the possibilities in fashion, textiles, and merchandising. It was a privilege to host the next generation of creative minds and introduce them to the incredible opportunities that await in these dynamic fields.
