Industrial Design Capstone: Aeromedical Waste Pouch

For his Senior Capstone Project, Joseph Braverman designed a medical waste disposal pouch for medics operating in aircraft. The product is called the MACK (Medical Accumulation Collection Kit).

Recognizing the unique challenges of airborne care, the MACK offers a compact, foldable design that remains out of the way until needed. With one-handed deployment, the bag springs open thanks to magnetically assisted hinges embedded in a rigid internal structure. This ensures the bag stays open during use, providing easy access for waste disposal without interrupting care.

Once filled, the MACK can be quickly sealed and detached to conserve valuable space in the aircraft. Its streamlined removal is made possible by a rugged, magnetically assisted mounting plate secured to a standard flight vest. This plate not only provides a stable attachment point but also simplifies the mounting process—an improvement over conventional military gear attachment systems.

Every aspect of the MACK is designed with the strict requirements of both medical and flight environments in mind. Materials are selected for durability, sterility, and compliance with aviation standards, ensuring the product can perform reliably in one of the most demanding settings for emergency medical care.
