Program Details

The Thomas Jefferson University Advanced GI/MIS/Bariatric Surgery Fellowship is a one-year clinical fellowship in an academic setting. This fellowship will prepare the trainee to competently and confidently perform complex gastrointestinal, foregut, bariatric, and hernia surgery and all related care. The primary focus will be on bariatric/foregut surgery with a secondary focus on hernia and abdominal wall reconstruction. The fellow will have extensive exposure to laparoscopic, robotic, and open techniques. Upper endoscopy experience will be provided by the surgical staff.

There is ample opportunity to complete clinically based research and publication is encouraged. Submission of abstracts and attendance at relevant academic meetings is supported financially. A state-of-the-art skills training center is available for the training of residents and fellows and offers an opportunity to participate in educational training activities with the housestaff. The faculty will provide additional mentorship in practice building and professional development. The ultimate goal is to have the graduating fellow excel in the practice of bariatric and general surgery. The ideal candidate is someone ready to immerse themselves in training and one who shares the same goal of excellence.

We improve lives.

It’s such a simple sentence, you might not realize just how powerful it is. But at Jefferson, this is our commitment. To our patients. To their families. To our community.
