Artificial Intelligence (AI) at Jefferson

Artificial Intelligence will permeate all facets of life in the future and Jefferson is leading the way to ensure our students understand AI’s potential and risks and, importantly, how they will use the tool in their careers.

Jefferson incorporates AI into coursework for programs across the University to prepare our students for their future work in a variety of industries.  At Jefferson we want our students to lend their perspectives to employers and lead conversations with new ideas on how AI can be used in an ethical, responsible way for the future.

AI in Curricula

The university is upgrading curriculum to ensure that a component of AI is embedded across every college and in nearly every academic program. This strategic move aims to prepare all Thomas Jefferson University students, regardless of their field, to thrive in an AI-augmented world.

  • Master of Science in Fashion Design Technology

The program meets the needs of an evolving industry with a data-driven model, integrating mixed-reality technology, allowing students to use headsets to visualize and perfect their designs in a 3D virtual space, moving beyond traditional sketches.

  • Jefferson College of Nursing

The Jefferson College of Nursing is integrating AI into nursing education to augment efficiency and enhance nursing education. Faculty members incorporate these new skills into their teaching practices, using AI to help evaluate competency-based learning and guide students on the ethical use of AI, ensuring they can validate information and use it as a supportive tool in their future careers.

"From a student standpoint, it’s all about preparing them for their future of work, but with a very healthy perspective around the potential ethical risks associated."

Resources Future of Work

Jefferson is incorporating a free, short course on AI for all current students, with a certificate provided upon completion. We are personalizing learning based on individual student needs with tailored content and targeted coaching to support improvement. Similar foundational courses are also being designed for faculty and staff. By building AI literacy, we are encouraging students, educators and staff to prioritize responsible AI usage and providing a jump-start to creative processes with real-time feedback.

“We’ll never take the human element out of the teaching, out of the advising, out of the support for our students, but we certainly want to be able to take advantage of the technology that is going to permeate our work life as well as our personal lives.”
