AI Taskforce
Thomas Jefferson University has established an AI Taskforce to proactively and strategically guide the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across our campus. This taskforce will be responsible for identifying opportunities to integrate AI into the education and research missions of the University and how it can support academic operations. The primary goal is to ensure that the use of AI aligns with our institutional values, enhances our academic mission, and is implemented in a responsible and ethical manner.
Core Responsibilities of Taskforce:
- Assess Current State: Evaluate the current use of AI tools and technologies within their respective areas.
- Identify Opportunities: Identify and explore new opportunities for leveraging AI to enhance efficiency, innovation, and excellence.
- Recommend Policies & Resources: Propose new policies or modifications to existing policies to govern the responsible use of AI and recommend resources needed to fulfill goals.
| Focus Area | Description |

| Education | This area will focus on the pedagogical implications of AI, including its use in curriculum development, instructional delivery, and student assessment. It will explore opportunities for AI to create more personalized learning paths for students, consider the use of automated grading and feedback tools, address the challenges AI poses to academic integrity, and identify ways in which AI can enhance teaching and learning experiences. |
| Research | Exploring how AI can be used to advance the university's research agenda, from data analysis and discovery to scholarly communication and collaboration. This area will also consider the infrastructure and resources needed to support AI-driven research and the ethical considerations surrounding the use of AI in the research process. |
| Faculty & Staff Development | Identifying the needs of faculty and staff in relation to AI and recommend programs and resources to support their professional development in this area. This includes providing training on emerging AI tools, developing pedagogical best practices for incorporating AI into the classroom, and establishing clear ethical guidelines for use of AI. |
| Academic Operations | Examining the potential for AI to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of academic operations, with an initial focus on Admissions/Application Process. This includes evaluating AI-powered tools for outreach and admissions related activities. |
