Research Interests:
My research has focused on finding factors that are potentially neuroprotective against Parkinson's related dopaminergic cell death. I have concentrated on looking at the difference between the substantia nigra, which is affected during PD, and the ventral tegmental area, which is relatively spared, to find VTA derived protective factors. This study has found a dynamic, time dependant transcriptional response to PD related injury in the VTA that is relatively absent in the SN. These findings indicate an active protection process in the VTA that we may be able to take advantage of to protect against PD related cell death.

Personal:
Aside from science, I enjoy cycling, singing and skiing. I enjoy a good debate about pretty much anything over a pint or a glass of wine.
