Message from the Dean

Welcome to the new College of Fashion & Textiles at Thomas Jefferson University. On July 1, 2026, Jefferson founded the College to elevate our industry-leading textile and fashion programs into a single, curated and collaborative ecosystem. By uniting Jefferson’s history as the first textile school in the nation with our internationally recognized excellence in fashion, the College is honoring our legacy with this bold vision for experiential education.

Students at the College – from the undergraduate to doctoral levels – will engage in immersive, hands-on learning, preparing them to shape a more sustainable, equitable and inclusive world.

Through the immersive global experiences offered by the College, students have the opportunity to integrate artisanal mastery and future-facing technologies with empathetic and ethical approaches. Designed to fuse creativity, research and innovation, these experiences equip graduates to pursue dynamic careers.

Disciplinary expertise is paired with interdisciplinary collaboration, encouraging students to think expansively while mastering their chosen field. Through intellectual curiosity, conceptual rigor, design excellence and creative expression, students will develop critical thinking skills and global perspective needed to become industry leaders.

Faculty in the College of Fashion & Textiles are practicing professionals, including designers, researchers, artists, scientists and entrepreneurs, who bring industry insight directly into our studios and labs. Our state-of-the-art facilities, specialized study abroad opportunities and industry-sponsored projects ensure that students graduate not only with ideas, but with hands-on experience.

Our culture of inspired excellence is reflected in the accomplishments of our students, alumni and faculty. Recent student successes include top awards in prestigious competitions including:

  • International Textile Alliance Virginia Jackson Design Competition
  • Fashion Scholarship Fund
  • Virgil Abloh “Post-Modern” Scholarship
  • Home Fashion Products Association Scholarship Competition

These distinctions are a testament to the strength of the academic experience in our studios and labs, the depth of the student experience and the reach and relevance of our work.

As you consider where you will grow, create and define your future, we invite you to experience the collaborative community of designers, merchandisers, technologists and innovators that call Jefferson’s College of Fashion & Textiles home. We welcome and encourage you to learn more about our college and programs by perusing our website, or, given the opportunity, visiting our lush East Falls Creative Campus in person.

At the College of Fashion & Textiles, we improve lives by shaping the future of textiles and fashion, and the leaders who will define it. We would be honored to welcome you to our community.

Create the future. Find your joy. Change the world.

Joyfully,

Marcia L. Weiss, MFA
