Meet the Team

JeffHOPE is a student organization led and staffed by medical students from Sidney Kimmel Medical College (SKMC), under the careful supervision of our faculty advisor, Dr. Jose Medina. Each year a new cohort of directors are chosen from third-year medical students to operate our clinics and committees. Clinics are staffed by medical students who are elected to specific clinics and committees by the board of directors.

Acute medical visits are precepted by resident physicians from the department of family and community medicine or the department of medicine. All medical students at SKMC are welcome to volunteer their time and skills to assist with basic acute medical visits under the supervision of the precepting resident physician and Dr. Jose Medina.

JeffHOPE Faculty Advisor

Jose Medina, MD

Dr. Medina is a graduate of the Department of Family and Community Medicine Residency Program, and now practices at Jefferson Health and Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience as a Neurosurgery Hospitalist where he co-manages patients alongside the Neurosurgery team, as well as sees patients at the Jefferson Perioperative Optimization Center.

Prior to his career in medicine Dr. Medina was a social worker in Philadelphia and worked to connect high utilizers of various health systems with essential medical and social safety net supportive services. Since his time as a social worker, through his years in medical school and residency, and now as a faculty member, Dr. Medina has passionately participated in Student Run Free Clinics.

Here at Jefferson, Dr. Medina was a trusted Resident and later Faculty preceptor for the SKMC students at JeffHOPE. Some of you may recognize him from his many student-selected “Best Preceptor” awards, given out in JeffHOPE Balls past.
