Neuroradiology/Head & Neck Imaging

Welcome to Thomas Jefferson University. My name is Dr. Scott Faro, and I am Professor of Radiology and Director of the Division of Neuroradiology and ENT here at Jefferson. I am a founder and past president of the American Society of Functional Neuroradiology.  Over the last ten years, our Neuroradiology program at Jefferson has been building at the same pace as Jefferson Health (which now boasts 14 locations that provide state-of-the-art care facilities, including: Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience, Wills Eye Hospital and the Kimmel Cancer Center). Jefferson Health is now the largest healthcare provider in the Philadelphia region.

The Neuroradiology division supports a large referral base with very complex neurosurgical and neurological disorders in both adults and children. Our division has physicians and MR neuroscientists that are internationally renowned experts in the fields of functional brain mapping with BOLD fMRI and advanced DTI of the brain and the spine. We provide cutting edge functional imaging for brain tumors, epilepsy and neurological diseases. These functional techniques include: BOLD and resting state fMRI, Tractography, DTI, MR Spectroscopy, and MR and CT perfusion. We support one of the busiest endovascular neuroimaging programs in the country in addition to being a level one trauma center and comprehensive stroke center.

Our division has a full service, non-vascular interventional neuroradiology program that, in addition to lumbar punctures and myelography, includes vertebral augmentation, tumor ablation, complex spinal and para spinal biopsies and CSF leak diagnosis and treatment. We are an integral part of the largest comprehensive headache center in the country.

From a research perspective, our division has internationally recognized leaders in fMRI and DTI of the brain and spine and a fast building program in AI and machine learning. Our division has fourteen expert neuroradiologists and five PhD neuro MR research scientists dedicated to advanced neuroscience imaging.

Our division also has a large active fellowship program that provides an excellent educational and research experience that includes all aspects of advanced functional neuroradiology. We are dedicated to provide the highest level of clinical neuroradiology, functional imaging research and education and to train the next generation of leaders in neuroradiology. Again, welcome to Jefferson.
