BreckWild (EMRG 406) has run since 2018 and is an immersive four-week educational experience designed for senior medical students with a goal of providing a comprehensive introduction to the field of wilderness and environmental medicine while gaining hands on experience and exposure to skills required for expedition planning, rescue and wilderness survival. Participants will have the opportunity to work towards their Fellowship in the Academy of Wilderness Medicine (FAWM) though the Wilderness Medical Society. During this course, students can to take advantage of two very unique physical environments: the alpine environment at 10,000ft in the town of Breckenridge, CO and a 10 day backcountry experience in the high desert of Southeast Utah. Students will also have opportunities to meet and network extensively with the course’s diverse group of expert wilderness medicine faculty, including world leaders in subject areas and wilderness medicine research.
