Student Work

These featured student works were selected from MUD design studios, seminars and research projects.

Generative Urban Design: Towards New Paradigms of Vertical Cities

The studio uses “Generative Design”, a framework that involves the integration of a rule-based geometric system, a series of measurable goals, and a system for automatically generating, evaluating, and evolving a very large number of design options, to generate the urban forms and evaluate their performances. Specifically, the studio aims to embrace ultra-density and mega-development, providing an extensive collection of residential, hotel, retail, office, and public spaces to the city center of Bangkok, Thailand.

Generative Urban Design: Towards Optimal Urban Density

The studio uses “Generative Design”, a framework that involves the integration of a rule-based geometric system, a series of measurable goals, and a system for automatically generating, evaluating, and evolving a very large number of design options, to generate the urban forms and evaluate their performances. Specifically, the studio aims to optimize the urban density in Guangzhou, China, by quantifying the energy/carbon performance, people’s experience, and the integration with nature.
