Biography

Professor Carly Kusy is the Program Director of Thomas Jefferson University’s BS in Fashion Design and MS in Fashion Design Technology programs. She has been part of the Jefferson community for more than two decades, beginning as a Fashion Design student and later earning her MS in Global Fashion Enterprise. She has been teaching at Jefferson since 2010, advancing through a range of faculty roles before her current leadership position.

Her career reflects an entrepreneurial and design-driven path. In 2008, she launched a sustainable womenswear line featuring one-of-a-kind pieces and later opened and operated a vintage clothing boutique and community-focused gallery space in Philadelphia. Today, her professional practice centers on sustainable, zero-waste apparel, complemented by her ongoing advocacy for sustainability in both educational spaces and the fashion industry.

For over 15 years, Professor Kusy has dedicated herself to teaching and mentoring fashion students, and in her current leadership role she continues to champion innovation in design education. She finds purpose in empowering the next generation of fashion designers to create positive systemic change, advancing a forward-thinking curriculum rooted in sustainability, technology, inclusivity, and diversity.
