The Department of Anesthesiology has a history of clinical research excellence in a variety of anesthesiology subspecialties, including:

  • The Artificial Pancreas Center - a bed of innovation and basic science research
  • Acute and Chronic pain management
  • Liver transplantation and coagulation
  • General perioperative topics
  • OR operations, efficiency and safety
  • Cardiothoracic anesthesia

The research faculty range far and wide in their academic interest and productiviy, and are regarded as national leaders in their respective fields. In all parts of the hospital, you can find academic activity, from retrospective big data investigations, OR operations and efficency research, and prospective randomized clinical trials. Faculty from Thomas Jefferson are strong contributors to annual national and international conferences such as the ASA, ASRA, and IARS, participating on panels, at poster sessions, and delivering presentations.

Engagement with our students and residents is a preqrequisite for project proposals, and their contributions are welcome and invaluable. With dedicated clinical resesarch coordinators and statistican, faculty are encouraged to explore their intellectual curiosities while contributing to the exciting field of academic research at an institution that values progress and innovation
