Civic Engagement
The Office of Student Engagement encourages students to develop themselves as leaders and learners through community-based activities. Our office serves as an avenue to connect students with non-profit agencies and grassroots community groups, while supporting student learning through civic engagement.
Our goal is to develop students into community-conscious leaders who have an active and engaged relationship with the East Falls community and Philadelphia at large.

SERV101 – Service Learning in Philadelphia
SERV101 is a one-credit course open to students of all years and majors. Students enrolled in the course will complete an independent service project, supported by in class instruction on topics around social change, current events, and more.

Student Employment Opportunities
The Community Service Work Study Program (CSWS) gives students the opportunity to earn their Federal Work Study award through community service. The program benefits local community organizations by providing them with consistent, responsible volunteers. Students in the program have the opportunity to develop their professional and community-building skills.
Most student employees in the CSWS program work off-campus and are supervised by community leaders, while others work with the Office of Student Engagement to coordinate service activities for their peers.
Registered Student Organizations
Many Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) have a service-based mission. Any RSOs interested in civic engagement initiatives should follow the standard steps outlined on the Registered Student Organization page. RSOs interested in hosting a fundraiser or donation drive will need approval from the Assistant Director of Community Service. RSOs are encouraged to submit their volunteer hours to the AD of Community Service for consideration for Community Cultivation Awards in the Spring Semester.
