SEED Grant Projects

The Jefferson Institute for Smart and Healthy Cities (JeffSmart) is pleased to announce the JeffSmart Seed Grant Program. These grants provide single-year seed funding to support transdisciplinary research and further grant-seeking, with a focus on the establishment of smart and healthy cities, as well as ongoing participation as JeffSmart Fellows.

The program encourages projects that:

  • Focus on improving life in cities through health, design, or built environment interventions.
  • Work to measure, quantify, or analyze the impact of changes in urban environments.
  • They are transdisciplinary in nature, incorporating Jefferson programs and faculty in multiple colleges.
  • Involve collaboration with community organizations, industry, government, or other institutions outside Jefferson.
  • Assist cities or organizations implementing or aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Have robust, credible strategies for seeking further funding for extension/expansion. This ongoing funding will be directed through the Institute.
  • Demonstrate measurable scholarly or practice-based outcomes that will extend beyond the grant period.
  • Serve as a potential basis for future long-term projects.
  • Demonstrate that funding is key to the researcher's research trajectory and project development.
