Meet Our Student: Leonard Bustos

Leonard is currently a junior in the landscape architecture program.

Where are you from originally?

Mays Landing, NJ

Why did you choose Jefferson?

I chose Jefferson because I enjoyed the beautiful sites around campus, especially the Wissahickon trail next door. Furthermore, I felt an instant connection with the school and had a sense that this school  was going to be the right choice.

What is the best part of your studies?

I love how integrated and collaborative the program is with other programs.

What’s something people would be surprised to find out about you?

I run both Cross Country and Track for Jefferson. I am also part of the 2022 Cross Country Champion team.

Tell us about a project you’re working on or award/honor you’ve recently received:

Currently, both the 3rd and 4th-year students are working on a schoolyard shared by Tilden Middle School and Bartram’s High School in Southwest Philadelphia. The schoolyard is a flat concrete site with little to no programs that activate this space. Now, it is up to us to help design a space that not only solves this issue but also unites both schools together. Alongside providing stormwater management, a new and improved parking layout, and play spaces dedicated to the children in both schools.
