Professor Lauren Baumbach: A Four-Decade Journey in Interior Design Education

For four decades, Professor Lauren Baumbach has been an unwavering force within the Department of Interior Design and Interior Architecture at Thomas Jefferson University. Her remarkable tenure has left an indelible mark on the academic landscape, shaping the minds of countless students and faculty, and elevating the field of interior design.

As an Associate Professor and the Chair of the Interior Design and Interior Architecture Department, Professor Baumbach embodies dedication, expertise, and passion. Under her guidance, the Interior Design and Interior Architecture Department has flourished. She guided both undergraduate and graduate programs through the difficult task of receiving and maintaining successful CIDA accreditations. Professor Baumbach’s commitment to fostering creativity, critical thinking, and technical excellence has empowered students to push boundaries and envision innovative spaces. Her leadership extends beyond the classroom, as she actively engages with industry professionals, promoting collaboration and staying abreast of emerging trends.

Professor Baumbach’s research and design work have enriched the field. Her insights into critical regionalism, sustainable design, phenomenology and the user experience have influenced both practice and academia. Her dedication to advancing interior design education is evident through her involvement with the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC) and Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA).
