Program Facilities

As the two of the oldest and most pre-eminent textile schools, both institutions have an extensive range of hand and production equipment to help you fulfill your creative vision.

Our facilities include hand, dobby and industrial jacquard looms for weaving, with numerous weaving CAD software platforms (Scotweave, AVL Weavepoint, EAT, Pointcarre, Nedgraphics).

Knitting is realized in our workshops — including V-beds, Passaps, Domestics, Lamb Knitters and Linkers, in conjunction with Shima Whole Garment, Stoll, and Santoni equipment.

We excel in our printing capabilities with full length production print tables, from hand painting to screen printing on all substrates, lamination, embossing, puff binders, a range of finishing applications, and digital printing on all surfaces in both porous and non-porous labs.

You may also access laser cutting, 3D printing, nonwovens fabrication and textile testing and material characterization labs.

Of course, all of this starts with inspiration and where better to begin that than in our famed archives?

The Collection at The Design Center at Thomas Jefferson University and the Textile Collection at Heriot-Watt University’s Scottish Borders Campus provide unparalleled access to important and extensive collections of textiles, garments, textile tools and history that spans the fashion and textile gamut.
