Meet Our Alumni: Jordan D. Richardson, Esq.

Where are you from originally?

Philadelphia.

What was the best part of your time at Jefferson?

It’s hard to choose just one thing, but aside from the lifelong friends I made, I would have to say the law and society courses. These courses were so enriching and provided a space for us to share different perspectives amongst my classmates, while engaging in exciting, thought-provoking dialogue.

What has having a Jefferson degree done for you/how has it prepared you for your career?

My time at Jefferson has really helped me narrow down what I truly wanted to do with my life. Sometimes college feels overwhelming, especially having to choose what you wanted for the rest of your life at such young age. Majoring in law and society illuminated my skills while giving me the confidence to take advantage of them.

What are you doing now?

I am currently living in Miami with my longtime girlfriend and two dogs, working as an Associate Attorney at Lydecker, LLP.

What’s something people would be surprised to find out about you?

I originally wanted to go into federal law enforcement. Initially, I was undecided on how to make the best use of my love of the law and its history. It wasn’t until I took moot court with Professor Laine, who we refer to as simply, “Laine,” that I really figured out my calling involved advocating rather than investigating.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to our current students?

Don’t get too hung up on what people think about you or what you’re capable of. Life is full of ups and downs, but very often the downs are what show you how far you are willing to go. Personally, my journey to where I am currently came with its fair share of failures. Those times hearing ‘no’ before finally receiving that yes, will make your final victory feel even more gratifying. Never give up on yourselves. Coming from a multiple re-taker of the bar, if you push past that fear and doubt, there is light, and life on the other side.
