JCN Team Receives HRSA Nurse Anesthetist Traineeship Program Award

Congratulations to Jefferson College of Nursing faculty members: Dr. Hannah Smith, Assistant Dean, Academic Strategy and Operations, Dr. Marian Feil, Director, Nurse Anesthesia Program, Dr. Jacqueline Mainwaring, Assistant Director, Nurse Anesthesia Program, and Dr. Kimberly Juhas-Davis, Assistant Professor, Nurse Anesthesia Program for receiving the Nurse Anesthetist Traineeship (NAT) Program award from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

The purpose of the Nurse Anesthetist Traineeship Program is to increase the number of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) providing care, especially to rural and underserved populations. Funds will be used to help student registered nurse anesthetists offset the costs of their program.  The students will gain additional training surrounding empathy and trauma informed care with respect to patients presenting with opioid use disorder (OUD) and be given opportunities to participate in community engagement seminars in Philadelphia neighborhoods that are most affected by the opioid crisis. We believe that by directly integrating NAP students in these neighborhoods, they will be more likely to work there in the future and feel ready to handle the large patient population with OUD.
