I have recently become focused on exploring different textures and mediums in my artwork, including salt, sand, and rubbing alcohol. One thing I had never tried was a pour painting because I felt that it required too many expensive materials to create a neat visual effect with cells and color separation. At my internship, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Elmer’s glue could be used as a pouring medium, making it a much cheaper and a more accessible medium for clients and myself. I worked with another intern student to practice this technique and was excited by the results that were achieved. I then went home and explored more, which led to the creation of this piece. The piece reminds me of abstracted inner workings of the brain and cells, which relates to my internship site where some clients may have experienced brain related injuries and also my passion of anatomy and art. After reflecting, I realized how this painting symbolizes my experience and connection to my internship site, connection and creating art with another person, and my connection to my own art making experiences and exploration.
