The Dual Degree Master’s Program in Emergency & Disaster Management and Public Health is a unique academic opportunity designed to equip students with a comprehensive education for addressing complex emergencies and public health interventions. This intensive and innovative program offers a synergistic approach to merge two critical fields. This interdisciplinary approach prepares graduates to lead and manage in the emergency management and public health fields with an integrated understanding of both professions.

We are prepared to support EDM/MPH students as they integrate public health tools and knowledge with emergency management experience. Accepted students work with academic advisors to receive individualized course progression plans. 

Curriculum

EDM students should complete the following course work (27 credits) to earn the MS in EDM degree.

  • Foundations in Emergency Management (3 credits)
  • Organizational Management and Communications in Disasters (3 credits)
  • Psychological Aspects of Disasters (3 credits)
  • Principles of Disaster Exercises and Drills (3 credits)
  • Logistic Management for Disasters (3 credits)
  • Public Health Implications of Disasters (3 credits)
  • Capstone Experience in EDM (joint with MPH) (3 credits)
  • Capstone Experience in EDM (joint with MPH) (3 credits)
  • Capstone Experience in EDM (joint with MPH) (3 credits)
  • Two Electives

EDM/MPH students must take the following courses on-campus in Center City, Philadelphia (36 credits) to earn the MPH.

  • Foundations of Public Health (3 credits)
  • Foundations of the US Healthcare System (3 credits)
  • Society, Behavior & the Environment (3 credits)
  • Fundamentals of Statistics (3 credits)
  • Fundamentals of Epidemiology (3 credits)
  • Foundations of Policy & Advocacy (3 credits)
  • Health Research Methods (3 credits)
  • Program Planning, Implementation, & Evaluation (3 credits)
  • Clerkship- Applied Practice Experience (joint with DMM) (3 credits)
  • GIS Mapping (3 credits)
  • Three Electives
