I sit on the Executive Board of the media nonprofit, the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists (PABJ). We're the oldest association of black journalists in the country and the parent chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ). Our mission is to diversify all aspects of the media industry with black media professionals.
I founded the Color of Cannabis Conference to educate communities of color and local media professionals on the history of cannabis, its connection to the War on Drugs and mass incarceration, the medical aspects of cannabis and how to get into the cannabis industry. It's an attempt to reverse the stigma, challenge the decades of misinformation and empower communities of color to take part in the cannabis movement and industry.
From a clinical perspective, as someone who has an autoimmune deficiency disorder and manages Ulcerative Colitis, I’m very interested in the endocannabinoid system and the use of cannabis as pain treatment for those with IBD and IBS symptoms.
Additionally, I wish to study ongoing equity and reparative efforts that are being made in various localities around the United States –often efforted by Black and brown cannabis operators and those who’ve been directly impacted by the war on drugs.
