Professor Cronin is an Assistant Professor of Writing and Rhetoric within the College of Humanities and Sciences.
In which departments do you work?
Writing Program of College of Humanities & Sciences. I also teach classes for the Professional & Strategic Writing (PSW) and Communication & Media Studies programs.
What you do here at Jefferson? Are you working on any projects outside of Jefferson?
I teach composition and creative nonfiction writing classes. In any writing class, I help students find their voices and reach their readers. I’m currently working on a book-length project about my experience navigating the Boy Scouts of America as a closeted gay boy.
How long have you been at Jefferson?
This will be my fourth year at Jefferson. After serving as a Visiting Assistant Professor, I’m excited this semester to be joining Jefferson as a full member of the faculty.
What is the best part of your job?
I love helping students tell their stories their own way. This past spring, it was a privilege to see my students at our Narrative Nonfiction Reading share the pieces they spent the semester writing and revising.
What’s one piece of advice you give students?
Trust that your writing will surprise you. You can never fully predict what you’ll write when you sit down to write.
What’s something people would be surprised to find out about you?
In high school I was elected the Youth Governor of Illinois.
