JCP Student Pharmacist Receives Prestigious Scholarship

Jannell Jeffers, a fourth year student pharmacist, in the Jefferson College of Pharmacy (JCP) received notification that she is the recipient of a Walmart Equity Scholarship administered through the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy.

Ms. Jeffers was selected as one of 10 recipients for this award from among more than 600 student pharmacist applications. Awardees of these scholarships must demonstrate leadership, academic success, and a commitment to serving rural or medically underserved patient populations. In her application, Ms. Jeffers said, “My goal is to use empathy to build rapport with patients and ensure that my patients feel heard and empowered to take ownership of their health and any care they receive. I will contribute to health equity and restore patient autonomy by providing patients with the knowledge to ensure that they can make the most informed decisions about their care.”

Ginah Nightingale, Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Chair of the JCP Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Council, commented, “I am so proud of Jannell and her service to the DEI Council as the student leader for the community engagement subgroup on top of her many other service responsibilities,  excellence in academics and working as an intern. The distinction associated with this scholarship is very well deserved! “

While a student pharmacist at Jefferson, Jannell has worked as a Pharmacy Intern at the Jefferson Health Outpatient Pharmacy and has served in leadership roles in the JCP DEI Council, the JCP Chapter of the Academy of Student Pharmacists and the Epsilon-Epsilon Chapter of the Rho Pharmacy Honor Society.
