Curriculum

The Jefferson — East Falls campus offers three tracks in undergraduate disciplines that provide an excellent foundation for a career in healthcare. The BS in Exercise SciencesBS in Health Sciences, and BS in Psychology are designed so that major coursework, college studies and OTD Program prerequisites can be completed within the first three years of undergraduate studies. Qualified students enroll in OTD coursework Year 4 to complete their undergraduate degree credit requirements.

BS in Exercise Sciences/OTD in Occupational Therapy

This program combines classroom and clinical-based educational experiences necessary to earn a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and a Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree.  The exercise science curriculum provides graduates with foundational knowledge in anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and exercise prescription.

Year 4 - Doctor of Occupational Therapy

Students must meet the following criteria to matriculate into the OTD curriculum Professional Phase (Year 4):

  • Completion of pre-professional courses within 3 consecutive years (minimum grades of “C” or higher)
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA for all college coursework
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA in OTD Program pre-requisite courses (no less than B- in any pre-requisite course: Anatomy & Physiology/L I and II, Physics/L I, Abnormal Psychology, Developmental Psychology, American  Diversity, Statistics,  Writing Seminars I and II ); all pre-requisite courses must be completed at Jefferson unless granted special permission
  • Complete a minimum 8 hours of observation in an occupational therapy practice site
  • Agree to Occupational Therapy Performance Requirements and Technical Standards available from the OTD program.

Formal review of student’s academic progress will occur each year. Students who do not meet the OTD Program academic standards will change major to Health Sciences to complete the Bachelor of Science (requires a minimum of 120 credits)

Students enter the professional phase in their fourth year to begin the final three years of the Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree.
